Last year, guilt, regret and empathy weren’t words you could associate with Jai Sharma but we saw a much more human side to him this week as he struggled in the wake of Holly’s death. Although most of the drama centred on the Bartons, Jai’s perspective was an important one for the family’s closure. Jai’s heart breaking guilt was played out in a quiet and tragic way at Butler’s Farm as he opened up to Moira about the night before Holly’s death. As Jai explained his addiction triggers to Moira, he revealed that he felt responsible for Holly’s overdose because he’d had to leave her at the wedding alone. The writing in the scene felt crushingly real and a painful reminder that happiness and strength doesn’t prevent the temptation of drugs and that the battle is not easily fought. Another praise-worthy scene during this tough storyline – good job, Emmerdale. Watch it again here.
